21 Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in South Africa

At least 21 people were killed in South Africa after a collision involving 3 vehicles in the Western Cape province.

The National Traffic Authority and local authorities said the accident occurred on the N1 highway between the towns of Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka, about 380 kilometers east of Cape Town.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation said on X that the crash involved two minibus taxis and a third vehicle.

Meanwhile, Western Cape Transport Department spokesperson Munira Ali said the collision occurred on Sunday evening, adding that the provincial department reported that a number of other people sustained serious injuries.

The tragic accident has brought renewed attention to the issue of dangerous roads in South Africa, where thousands of deaths are recorded annually, and to the urgent need to strengthen safety standards in road transport relied upon daily by thousands of migrants and workers.
